Deep Clough Farm Sustainable Tourism

At Deep clough Farm we are committed to helping to preserve the unique environment we are privileged to live within. We want to conserve this beautiful part of the world not just for us and our children but also for those that visit. The only way to do this is to minimise as much as possible our impact on the environment and to do all we can to help nurture our local wildlife by farming in a way that creates a rich and diverse natural habitat that will support the widest range of species.

The Green Tourism Business Scheme provides encouragement to tourism businesses to reduce the environmental impact of their activities. By encouraging sustainable practices the scheme ensures the continued enjoyment of the environment around us for future generations.

The Cottages

  • Being newley converted the cottages have been built with the highest standard of insulation.
  • Use of environmentally friendly cleaning products.

  • Encouraging guests to walk from the cottages by providing information on local walks.
  • Collect and send for recycling any batteries or bulbs guests need to dispose of.
  • We are investigating the possibility of installing solar photo-voltaic panels.
  • Low energy light bulbs are used where possible and we will replace all bulbs with them when they need replacing.
  • Almost all our appliances are A rated.
  • We encourage our guests to support local producers, pubs, restaurants and cafes and we promote local tourist attractions and events.

The Farm:

  • Areas of the farm are also managed under Environmental Stewardship Scheme objectives also include maintaining and enhancing landscape character, promoting public access and understanding of the countryside.
  • We work closely with the RSPB’s Bowland Wader Project to ensure conditions are right for the farm’s wading birds and are also taking part in the ‘Lapwing Recovery Project’.

We welcome suggestions from our guests on how we can further protect the environment and make our holiday cottages better.
